Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd has released a music video for his new single "A Better Universe", which comes from his forthcoming solo album, "Echoes And Cocoons".

Brandon had this to say about the song, "I suppose I have understood for much of my life that it's through communication and cooperation that we can potentially arrive at a place that is clearer than where we came from. Being in a band for 30 years now has shown me, for better or for worse, so much about what it is to be in a 'chosen' family dynamic. We have our moments of celebration, where we clink glasses, cheer and embrace around shared accomplishments. Then we do our very best to lean into one another around the inevitable moments when things don't go according to plan and we are asked to test our capacities for adaptation. This part is more the rule than it is the exception, and if a family dynamic doesn't learn how to adapt around swiftly changing landscapes they'll be lost in the woods and destined to malfunction and ultimately fade into obscurity. The moments between the peaks and the valleys are of equal importance and I've learned over the decades that these areas of stasis are just as crucial to familiarize oneself with. (read more)

UK punkers Weatherstate released their new album, "Never Better", today (February 11th) and to celebrate we asked them to tell us about the effort:

Going into this record we really wanted to put more focus on the songwriting and mix things up from our usual approach to going into the record. We found that when working with Alan Day. Traditionally we are a scrappy punk band who jam together in a garage, and we intended to try that again initially on this record. That changed when the pandemic hit as we were about to make plans for recording this record. Initially we were looking to work in the US alongside Alan in person, but with flight restrictions we had to adapt working on opposite sides of the Atlantic over Zoom, which isn't typically the most punk rock approach to writing music. Saying that, I do think it helped in the long run. We really did get the chance to analyze everything in pre- production to its best potential because we had so much time on our hands. It had it's difficulties though. We'd typically have to work late because of the time difference and some nights we'd be working on a song until 3am when we'd be up for work the next day. Upon Wings and Annè Autumn Erickson recently released their new single, "Scars," and to celebrate, we have asked Annè Autumn to tell us about the track. Here is the story behind "Scars:"

"Scars" is a different song for us, both musically and thematically. Musically, our music is often very guitar-driven, with soaring guitar solos, but this song features a hot, catchy beats track from Kevin Jardine, bringing a hip-hop flavor into the mix. I was super inspired to try something new. The beat recalls greats such as Eminem and Dr. Dre, and Jardine really knocked it out of the park with it. Vocally, some are comparing "Scars" to Katy Perry, Rihanna and Ariana Grande, which is really flattering. (continue)
