Day in Rock Report for 10/28/2022

Rock and roll icon and pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis has died at the age of 87 and his sister Linda Gail Lewis has shared a tribute to her legendary older brother.

She wrote, "I can't believe my big brother is gone, my world will never be the same again. From the first moment I opened my eyes he's been my protector and inspiration. As a child I grew up watching him play piano in our house and developing his distinctive piano and vocal style that would change the world only a few years later. Jerry is the one that first took me into the studio, made me sing my first notes and record my first record at 15 as a duet with him. I owe him my entire career and my life to him! Every unforgettable experience, every song we sang together, every stage we shared on the road for over two decades will never be forgotten by me, and hopefully not anyone that was there. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have premiered a music video for the
new symphonic version of their 2006 hit "Face Down", which features Kendra Cover, who starred in the original video.

Ronnie Winter (Lead Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist, Producer) explains "Over the years we've gotten a lot of requests for this song, not just to play it, but to re-record it. So we finally recorded not only a new symphonic edition of 'Face Down', but the whole album. With this video we specifically chose to focus on the line "a new life she has found," which is also my family's experience. We definitely did not get to show that in the first video. Everything has been about that. From the casting, to the crew, to the locations, to the treatment, to the story. From the beginning we really just wanted to show how awesome things can get if you have the courage to make decisions that can be extremely painful and tough. That's what this has been about since the beginning. Not only have things worked out for the character in the video, but now she's actually learned how to help other people get through the same situation that she has, which is very important to someone like me who's in recovery because that's what we do. So, it's about healing and how it's hard and messy, but it happens and it's worth working towards. (read more)

Air Traffic Controller recently released the single, "20", from their forthcoming album, "Dash" (out November 11th), and to celebrate we asked Dave Munro to tell us about the track. Here is the story:

The writing process for this record was unlike anything ATC had done in the past. Some members had moved away, and although we didn't have much of a choice, we were excited to try new ways to create. One night I met up with our drummer, Adam, who walked into our rehearsal space with a gigantic Korg Triton keyboard. I knew he could play piano, but this was the first time he was going to play keys for ATC purposes. He had this repeating chord progression and a great little melody started. After a while of singing nonsense, I changed my original lyric from "out of body" to "I was 20", and began reflecting on my past life as a young air traffic controller in the military. (continue)
